Two

My baby. Forever you will be saddled with that moniker. One by one the other two gained a sibling and ceased to be the baby.

You are my last and final.

This saddens me because you are so obviously not a baby anymore and as you grow each day you become less an extension of me and more, well.........YOU.

But I am also selfishly cheerful. You see, each time I had a new baby, it felt like a slight betrayal of my previous "baby." Oh everyone adjusts and shifts and settles into their new position of oldest, middle, first, Big. But each time, I was just a little sad that my baby no longer held the position of "baby".

For better or worse, hate it, like it or love it, Meredith, you get to stay my baby. Happy birthday Baby Right Now.

And what a cute "baby" she is!

I am 51 and until the day she died, my mother called me her "baby".
One time I had a tooth ache and whined about it all night. Mom went to get her hair done the next day and told the hairdresser "I am so tired, my baby had a tooth ache and I didn't sleep all night."
The woman said, "awe, thats awful, how old is your baby?"
My mother looked at her, confused and said "25"

I screwed up logging in before, so if this posts again, I apologize :)

First, Happy birthday to Meredith!! Such a great age, in spite of its bad press. My brother, the youngest of us three, is definitely still my mom's "baby." And our 10 1/2 year old dog we just lost last week was our "puppy" until the end (she was the youngest of the dogs we had/have - we had 4 at one time).

Happy Birthday Meredith! You will keep Mom on her toes this year, and because you are the baby...you will get away with it!
